Description

Buttery, tender almond bars with a crisp almond topping and a sweet almond glaze. Perfect for a delightful snack or dessert that pairs beautifully with coffee or tea.

For the Bars:

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 4 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp kosher salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp almond extract

For the Topping:

  • 2 Tbsp milk (any variety)

  • 1 cup sliced almonds

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • ½ tsp almond extract

  • 2 Tbsp milk (any variety)


Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13 inch baking pan.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then almond extract.

  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until combined into a dough.

  • Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.

  • Brush the dough surface with 2 tablespoons milk, then evenly sprinkle sliced almonds on top.

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  • While bars cool, whisk together powdered sugar, almond extract, and 2 tablespoons milk to make the glaze.

  • Drizzle the glaze evenly over the warm bars. Let cool completely before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for easier creaming.

  • For a crunchier top, toast almonds lightly before sprinkling.

  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
