Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Bake:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 cups marinara sauce
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
    • 12 oz cheese tortellini, cooked according to package instructions
    • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • For Garnish:
    • Fresh basil or parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the marinara sauce, beef broth, dried basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes if using. Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  • In a large bowl, combine the cooked tortellini with the meat sauce mixture. Mix well.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Notes

This dish pairs wonderfully with a side salad or garlic bread.
