Description

Biscuits & Gravy Casserole is a hearty, comforting breakfast classic turned into an easy baked dish. Fluffy biscuits are layered with creamy sausage gravy, making it a perfect option for weekend brunches, holiday mornings, or feeding a hungry crowd with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage

  • 23 tablespoons butter (see note)

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 3 cups whole milk

  • 1 can (8-count) refrigerated biscuits

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked. If using pork sausage, drain but reserve the fat; for turkey sausage, add more butter as needed.

  • Add butter to the skillet with the sausage (use 2 tablespoons if you have pork fat; 3 tablespoons if using leaner meat). Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until combined.

  • Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly. Add salt and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens (about 5–7 minutes).

  • Cut biscuits into quarters.

  • Assemble the casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread half the biscuit pieces in the dish. Pour sausage gravy over the biscuits. Top with remaining biscuit pieces.

  • Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.

  • Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add shredded cheddar cheese on top before baking.

  • Use spicy sausage for a flavorful kick.

  • You can prepare the gravy the night before and assemble the casserole in the morning for quicker prep.

  • If you prefer a crispier top, bake for an additional 5 minutes.
