Indulge in the delightful combination of sweet cherries and rich chocolate with this Cherry Chocolate Chip Poke Cake. Moist and flavorful, it’s a perfect dessert for any gathering, featuring layers of chocolate cake soaked in a cherry and condensed milk mixture, topped with whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale

1 box chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients to prepare (eggs, oil, water)
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup cherry preserves or pie filling
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (8 oz) container whipped topping, thawed
Fresh cherries, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to the temperature specified on the cake mix box. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions.
  • Once baked, let the cake cool for 5-10 minutes.
  • Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cake.
  • In a bowl, mix the sweetened condensed milk and cherry preserves until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture over the warm cake, spreading evenly and allowing it to soak into the holes.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the cake.
  • Let the cake cool completely to room temperature.
  • Spread the whipped topping over the cake, covering it evenly.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • Before serving, garnish with fresh cherries if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra cherry flavor, consider using cherry pie filling instead of preserves.
  • Ensure the whipped topping is fully thawed for easy spreading.
