For the Chicken Fried Steak:
- 4 cube steaks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
For the Country Gravy:
- 1/4 cup pan drippings
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, mix together flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- In another dish, whisk together eggs and milk.
- Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture, and coat again in the flour mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Fry the steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- To make the gravy, add pan drippings to the skillet.
- Whisk in flour and cook for about 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the chicken fried steak with country gravy on top.
Notes
- For extra crispy steak, make sure the oil is hot before frying.
- The gravy can be thinned with extra milk if it becomes too thick.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper to the steak coating.
