Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, cocoa, vanilla, eggs, flour, baking powder, and salt. Spread batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Do not overcook.
  • Let cool in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Make sure not to overbake the brownies. They should still be slightly soft in the center when you test with a toothpick.
  • You can add chocolate chips, nuts, or swirls of caramel for extra flavor.
