Description
These bite-sized churro poppers are the perfect sweet treat! Crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, and coated in a cinnamon-sugar mixture that makes every bite irresistible.
Ingredients
Scale
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup water
- 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a medium bowl or brown paper bag, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; set aside.
- Heat about 2 1/2 inches of oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F.
- Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from the heat.
- Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
- When the dough is cool enough to handle, scoop and lightly roll the dough into balls about the size of walnuts.
- Fry 3-4 dough balls at a time, being sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, then remove from the oil.
- Immediately shake or stir the fried churro poppers in the reserved cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Transfer to a plate while you repeat the process with the remaining dough.
- Serve immediately!
Notes
- You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it for later use. Just allow it to come to room temperature before frying.
- If you prefer a less sweet version, reduce the cinnamon-sugar coating or leave it out altogether for a plain churro popper.
- For extra indulgence, serve with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce!
