Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ziti pasta
- 1 pound ground beef (or Italian sausage)
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef (or Italian sausage) and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Pour in the marinara sauce and add the dried oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, and grated Parmesan cheese.
- In a 9×13 baking dish, layer the cooked pasta, meat sauce, and cheese mixture. Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a subtle kick.
- If you prefer, you can use Italian sausage instead of ground beef for a more traditional flavor.
- To make it ahead, assemble the dish and refrigerate it. Just bake it for a bit longer when you’re ready to cook.
