Description

These Classic M&M Cookie Bars are the perfect combination of chewy, buttery cookie dough and colorful candy-coated chocolate. Loaded with regular M&Ms and melty semisweet chocolate chips, this easy-to-make dessert bar is a crowd-pleaser for birthdays, holidays, or any casual get-together.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2⅔ cups all-purpose flour (320g)

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ¾ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (226g)

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar (220g)

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (100g)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2½ teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup regular M&Ms, plus more for sprinkling (220g)

  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips, plus more for sprinkling (90g)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.

  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  • Fold in the M&Ms and semisweet chocolate chips.

  • Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle additional M&Ms and chocolate chips on top for decoration.

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  • Allow to cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars and serving.

Notes

  • For softer bars, do not overbake.

  • You can swap M&Ms for other candy-coated chocolates or use seasonal varieties.

  • Bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 2 months.

  • Use parchment paper to lift the entire slab out of the pan easily for clean slicing.
