Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
- 12 oz penne pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add diced onion and garlic. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 3 minutes.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a simmer. Stir in the heavy cream, mozzarella cheese, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Continue to simmer the sauce until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta and sausage back into the skillet, tossing to coat everything in the creamy sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute the smoked sausage with any other sausage of your choice.
- For a lighter version, you can use half-and-half instead of heavy cream.
