Description

Treat yourself to a carnival favorite with this Crispy Homemade Funnel Cake topped with a decadent chocolate drizzle. Light, crispy, and dusted with powdered sugar, this funnel cake is perfect for a fun dessert or special treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Funnel Cake Batter:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Toppings:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chunks
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth batter forms.
  • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat (the oil should reach 350°F).
  • Pour the batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle. Hold the funnel or bottle over the hot oil and carefully drizzle the batter in a swirling, circular pattern. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use tongs to carefully flip the funnel cake halfway through.
  • Remove the funnel cake from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  • Once drained, sprinkle the funnel cake generously with powdered sugar.
  • For the chocolate drizzle: In a small saucepan, heat the chocolate chips and heavy cream (or milk) over low heat, stirring until smooth and melted.
  • Drizzle the warm chocolate sauce over the powdered sugar-covered funnel cake.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Be careful when frying; the oil should be hot but not smoking. If the oil is too hot, the funnel cake may burn.
  • You can substitute chocolate chips with chocolate chunks or any other favorite topping.
  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter.
