Description

This easy egg custard is a classic, smooth dessert made with simple ingredients like eggs, milk, and sugar. Topped with a sprinkle of nutmeg, it’s baked to perfection for a comforting, homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ground nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Beat eggs in a bowl, then add sugar and continue beating until well combined.
  • Heat milk in a saucepan until hot but not boiling. Slowly pour hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
  • Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour mixture into ramekins and sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
  • Place ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes or until custard is set.
  • Remove from oven and let cool before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is hot but not boiling to prevent curdling the eggs.
  • The custard should be slightly wobbly in the center when done.
  • This custard can be served warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
