- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Ground nutmeg (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Beat eggs in a bowl, then add sugar and continue beating until well combined.
- Heat milk in a saucepan until hot but not boiling. Slowly pour hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
- Stir in vanilla extract.
- Pour mixture into ramekins and sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
- Place ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until custard is set.
- Remove from oven and let cool before serving.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is hot but not boiling to prevent curdling the eggs.
- The custard should be slightly wobbly in the center when done.
- This custard can be served warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
