Description

A rich and hearty dish featuring savory ground beef, caramelized onions, and egg noodles, all topped with melted Gruyere cheese. Perfect for a cozy dinner, this dish combines the flavors of classic French onion soup with comforting beef and noodles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, ensuring it forms a roux with the onions.
  • Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.
  • Add the cooked ground beef back to the skillet and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • Once the noodles are cooked, add them to the skillet and stir to combine with the beef and onion mixture.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Top with shredded Gruyere cheese and cover the skillet until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • Gruyere cheese adds a great depth of flavor, but you can substitute with Swiss cheese or mozzarella if preferred.
  • This dish is great for meal prep; the flavors intensify when stored overnight.
