Description

A fun, sweet twist on traditional French toast! These heart-shaped bites are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and coated in a delightful cinnamon-sugar mixture, giving you the deliciousness of churros in bite-sized form. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a sweet treat!

Ingredients

Scale

For the French Toast Bites:

  • 8 slices of thick bread (brioche or Texas toast recommended)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Butter or neutral oil, for cooking

For the Churro Coating:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For Serving (Optional):

  • Chocolate sauce
  • Caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  • Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil for cooking.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and granulated sugar.
  • Cut the bread slices into heart shapes using a cookie cutter or knife.
  • Dip each heart-shaped bread piece into the egg mixture, making sure it’s fully coated.
  • Cook the dipped bread pieces in the skillet or griddle until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • While the French toast bites are cooking, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the churro coating in a shallow bowl.
  • Once cooked, immediately toss the warm French toast bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  • Serve with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra crispy bites, use a thicker bread like brioche or Texas toast, which will hold up better when dipped and fried.
  • If you prefer a lighter coating, you can skip the sugar mixture or use a smaller amount.
  • For a fun twist, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon-sugar coating or drizzling with maple syrup.
