Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup colored sugar or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350F (175C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cream Butter & Sugar:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients:
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until combined.
  • Shape Cookies:
    • Roll the dough into small balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten each ball slightly with the back of a fork or your fingers. If using, sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.
  • Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden brown.
  • Cool:
    • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
