Description

Create spooky fun with these easy Halloween Mummy Meatballs—juicy, flavorful meatballs wrapped in cheesy mozzarella strips to look like mummies. Perfect for Halloween parties, these kid-friendly appetizers combine simple ingredients, quick preparation, and festive presentation to delight guests of all ages.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatball Mixture

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (substitute gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For Cooking and Wrapping

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into thin strips
  • Black olives, sliced (for eyes)

Optional

  • Marinara sauce for dipping or serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined to keep meatballs tender.
  2. Shape the Meatballs: Roll the mixture into uniform, bite-sized balls about one inch in diameter for even cooking.
  3. Cook the Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, cooking 8-10 minutes until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove and let cool slightly.
  4. Wrap the Mummies: Cut mozzarella into thin strips and gently wrap each meatball to resemble mummy bandages, leaving space for eyes. Add two small black olive slices to each for spooky eyes.
  5. Bake to Melt the Cheese: Place wrapped meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes until mozzarella is melted and slightly golden.

Notes

  • Ensure uniform meatball size for even cooking and consistent mummy appearance.
  • Do not overmix the meat mixture to keep meatballs tender and avoid a dense texture.
  • Use room temperature mozzarella strips for easier wrapping without breakage.
  • Add olive eyes after baking if you want them to keep their shape and fresh color.
  • Serve warm for the best gooey cheese and juicy meatball experience.
