Description

These delicious, soft chocolate thumbprint cookies are perfect for any occasion, especially Valentine’s Day. With a rich chocolate flavor and a sweet jam filling in the center, they are both indulgent and visually stunning in their heart-shaped design.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup fruit jam (raspberry, strawberry, or your favorite flavor)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and beat until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Add the milk and stir until the dough comes together.
  • Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to press an indentation into the center of each cookie.
  • Fill each indentation with about ½ teaspoon of fruit jam.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are firm to the touch.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Be sure not to overbake the cookies. They should remain soft in the center.
  • Feel free to experiment with different jam flavors for the thumbprint filling.
  • You can also drizzle melted chocolate over the cookies for extra chocolatey goodness!
