This Hearty Meat and Potato Pie is the ultimate comfort food, combining savory ground beef, tender potatoes, and vegetables, all wrapped in a flaky puff pastry. Perfect for a cozy dinner or special occasion, this dish is both hearty and satisfying!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 cup frozen peas
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed, if frozen)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a pie dish or a baking dish of similar size. - Cook Meat and Vegetables:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if needed.
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, and cook for about 2-3 minutes until softened. - Simmer Potatoes:
Add the peeled and cubed potatoes, beef broth, salt, pepper, and paprika to the skillet. Stir to combine, then cover and simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are starting to soften but still hold their shape. - Add Frozen Peas:
Stir in the frozen peas and cook for another 5 minutes until everything is heated through and the potatoes are tender. - Assemble the Pie:
Pour the beef and potato mixture into the prepared pie dish. Roll out the puff pastry to fit over the top of the pie dish (you can trim any excess pastry). Place the pastry over the filling, pressing the edges gently to seal. Cut a few small slits in the top of the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking. - Bake:
Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crisp. - Serve:
Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground lamb, turkey, or chicken for a variation.
- For extra flavor, you can add herbs like thyme, rosemary, or bay leaves while simmering the potatoes.
- If you prefer a thicker filling, add a little cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) to the broth while cooking.
