Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  • Add the olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  • Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Allow the bread to cool before slicing.
