Description

This Honey Garlic Chicken is a delicious, quick, and easy recipe featuring tender, juicy chicken coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce. It’s the perfect weeknight dinner or meal prep option, with an optional touch of ginger for extra flavor. Garnished with fresh green onions, this dish is a crowd-pleaser that pairs wonderfully with rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Chicken thighs or breasts
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Season the chicken: Season both sides of the chicken thighs or breasts with salt and pepper.

  • Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 6-8 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside.

  • Prepare the honey garlic sauce: In a small bowl, mix together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and ginger (if using).

  • Simmer the sauce: Add the honey garlic mixture to the same pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to combine.

  • Return the chicken to the pan: Place the cooked chicken back into the pan and coat it with the sauce. Allow it to simmer for an additional 2 minutes to let the sauce soak into the chicken.

  • Garnish and serve: Garnish with green onions, if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, you can mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with a bit of water and stir it into the sauce.
  • For a hands-off version, you can bake the chicken instead of pan-frying it. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, then pour the sauce over the chicken after baking.
  • Using chicken thighs will result in a juicier, more flavorful dish, but chicken breasts work well too.
