Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized casserole dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add in the milk, melted butter, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, and stir until well combined.
  • Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Do not stir.
  • Carefully pour the boiling water over the batter (do not stir). The water will create the fudge sauce on the bottom.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is set and the cake looks slightly cracked. The pudding should still be soft underneath the crust.
  • Let the cake cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

  • This cake is best served warm and is delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
