Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized casserole dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add in the milk, melted butter, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, and stir until well combined.
- Fold in the semisweet chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Do not stir.
- Carefully pour the boiling water over the batter (do not stir). The water will create the fudge sauce on the bottom.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is set and the cake looks slightly cracked. The pudding should still be soft underneath the crust.
- Let the cake cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- This cake is best served warm and is delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
- The cake forms a fudgy sauce on the bottom as it bakes, making it unique from other cakes.
- For an extra rich flavor, you can use dark chocolate chips instead of semisweet.
