Description

This KFC Coleslaw copycat recipe is creamy, tangy, and just the right amount of sweet. It perfectly replicates the iconic flavor of the famous fast-food side dish. Quick to make and even better the next day, it’s the ultimate side for barbecue, fried chicken, or any comfort food meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz bag coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots)

  • 1 large shallot, finely minced

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup buttermilk

  • 1/4 cup whole milk

  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp white vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sugar, buttermilk, whole milk, lemon juice, white vinegar, salt, and pepper until fully combined and smooth.

  • Add the coleslaw mix and minced shallot to the bowl.

  • Toss everything together until the cabbage is evenly coated in the dressing.

  • Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.

  • Stir again before serving.

Notes

  • For best flavor, prepare this coleslaw a day in advance.

  • Use freshly shredded cabbage and carrots if you prefer not to use a pre-made mix.

  • Adjust sugar, vinegar, and lemon juice to taste for a more or less tangy finish.
