Ingredients
-
1 tablespoon sesame oil
-
1 tablespoon cornstarch
-
1/2 cup soy sauce
-
1/2 cup rice vinegar
-
3/4 cup brown sugar
-
6 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 teaspoon ground ginger
-
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
-
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
-
8 chicken drumsticks
-
2 tablespoons sliced green onions for garnish
-
1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
-
In a small bowl, whisk together sesame oil, cornstarch, soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, ground ginger, sesame seeds, and crushed red pepper flakes. Set aside.
-
Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken drumsticks and sear each side for 3-4 minutes, until golden brown. Remove the chicken and set aside.
-
In the same skillet, pour the prepared glaze mixture. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
-
Return the chicken drumsticks to the skillet and coat them with the glaze, turning them to ensure even coverage.
-
Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the glaze is sticky and caramelized. (You can baste the chicken with the sauce halfway through the cooking time.)
-
Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
-
Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
-
For extra crispy skin, you can broil the drumsticks for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
-
If you like a spicier dish, increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to taste.
- This recipe can be paired with steamed rice or a vegetable side dish for a complete meal.
