Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) white American cheese (shredded or cubed)
(Or substitute with white cheddar, Monterey Jack, or queso blanco) - 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk (or half & half for extra creaminess)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream (optional, for ultra-smooth texture)
- 1 small jalapeño (finely diced, optional for spice)
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 small can (4 oz / 110 g) diced green chilies (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for richness)
- 1–2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Melt the Cheese Base:
- In a medium saucepan, add the shredded white American cheese (or your preferred substitute), whole milk, and heavy cream (if using). Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the cheese is melted and smooth.
- Add Spices and Flavor:
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, and salt. Adjust the seasoning to taste. If you’re using diced green chilies, add them at this point for an extra layer of flavor.
- Add Heat (Optional):
- If you like a bit of heat, stir in the finely diced jalapeño. You can adjust the amount based on how spicy you want the dip to be.
- Add Butter (Optional):
- For an extra creamy and rich texture, stir in the tablespoon of butter and let it melt into the dip.
- Serve:
- Once the dip is smooth and creamy, remove it from the heat. Serve it immediately with tortilla chips, veggies, or your favorite dippers.
- Garnish (Optional):
- Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro before serving for a burst of fresh flavor and color.
Notes
- You can substitute the white American cheese with queso blanco, Monterey Jack, or white cheddar if preferred.
- For extra spice, you can add more jalapeños or use a spicier variety like serrano peppers.
- If the dip gets too thick, add more milk or cream to reach your desired consistency.
