- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.
- Mix in the flour until well blended.
- Press the dough into the bottom of a 9-inch square baking pan.
- Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly golden.
- In a saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips.
- Stir over low heat until smooth and the chocolate has melted.
- Spread the chocolate mixture over the baked shortbread crust.
- Allow the shortbread to cool to room temperature before cutting it into squares.
Notes
- For a firmer topping, let the shortbread cool completely and chill it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before cutting.
- You can add a pinch of salt to the caramel layer for a salted caramel twist.
