Description

Mini Corndogs are crunchy, golden, and irresistibly tasty bite-sized snacks made with a crispy cornmeal batter and juicy sausages. Perfect for quick snacks, parties, or anytime munching, they can be fried or baked for a delicious savory treat with customizable flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Batter Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg

Sausages

  • 12 hot dogs or cocktail sausages, cut into bite-sized pieces

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil, enough for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add milk and egg, stirring until smooth and thick enough to cling evenly to the sausages.
  2. Prep the sausages: Cut hot dogs or cocktail sausages into bite-sized pieces if not already. Pat dry with paper towels to ensure the batter sticks well.
  3. Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep pot or frying pan to enough depth to submerge the corndogs. Heat the oil to around 350°F (175°C) for optimal frying temperature.
  4. Coat and fry: Insert a skewer or toothpick into each sausage piece, then dip into the batter, coating evenly. Carefully lower into hot oil and fry in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until batter is golden and crispy.
  5. Drain and serve: Remove mini corndogs with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Use cold ingredients to help the batter stick better when frying.
  • Fry in small batches to keep oil temperature consistent and ensure even crispiness.
  • Soak wooden skewers in water for 20 minutes to prevent burning during frying.
  • Ensure batter thickness is just right to cling without dripping excessively.
  • Serve immediately for best crunch and flavor.
