Description
Miso Glazed Black Cod is a delicate and flavorful dish featuring tender, buttery fish marinated in a savory-sweet miso glaze. This Japanese-inspired recipe delivers rich umami with a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness, making it a refined yet easy-to-make dinner option.
Ingredients
-
1/4 cup sake
-
1/4 cup mirin
-
1/4 cup white miso paste
-
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
-
4 (4 to 6-ounce) black cod or sablefish fillets, preferably center cut
-
Kosher salt, to taste
-
Cooking spray or 2 tablespoons vegetable or canola oil
Instructions
-
In a small saucepan, combine sake, mirin, miso paste, and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture becomes smooth. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
-
Pat the black cod fillets dry and lightly season both sides with kosher salt.
-
Place the fillets in a shallow dish and pour the cooled miso marinade over the fish, turning to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for best flavor.
-
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly oil a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
-
Remove excess marinade from the fish and place the fillets on the baking sheet.
-
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. For a caramelized finish, broil the fillets for an additional 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning.
- Serve immediately, optionally garnished with scallions or lemon wedges.
Notes
-
Marinating overnight enhances the depth of flavor and tenderness.
-
Black cod can be substituted with sablefish or other fatty white fish.
- Serve with steamed rice and sautéed greens for a complete meal.
