Description

These Mozzarella Onion Rings are a deliciously cheesy twist on the classic onion ring! Crispy on the outside and filled with gooey mozzarella, these cheesy bites make the perfect appetizer or side dish. With just a few simple ingredients and a quick bake in the oven, you can enjoy the savory goodness of melted mozzarella cheese paired with crunchy onion in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, cut into strips
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup bread crumbs

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Slice the onion into rings and separate them.
  • Cut the mozzarella into strips that will fit inside the onion rings.
  • In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • In another dish, beat the eggs.
  • Dip each mozzarella strip into the flour mixture, then into the egg, and finally coat it with bread crumbs.
  • Carefully place the coated mozzarella strips inside the onion rings on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add some dried oregano or Italian seasoning to the bread crumbs.
  • If you prefer a deeper crunch, you can fry these instead of baking them, but baking keeps them a bit lighter.
  • These mozzarella onion rings are best served hot and fresh with a side of marinara or ranch dipping sauce.
