Ingredients
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
1 lb (450 g) chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
-
4 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1/4 cup honey
-
1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
-
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
-
1 tbsp rice vinegar
-
1 tsp sesame oil
-
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
-
8 oz (225 g) noodles (lo mein or spaghetti)
-
2 cups chicken broth
-
1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
-
2 tbsp green onions, chopped (for garnish)
-
Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Heat olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken and set aside.
-
In the same pan, add garlic and onion; sauté until fragrant and translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
-
Stir in honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well to combine.
-
Add the noodles and chicken broth to the pan. Bring to a simmer and cook until noodles are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
-
Return the cooked chicken to the pan and stir to combine.
-
Add the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) to the pan and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
-
You can substitute chicken breast with thighs for a juicier result.
-
Adjust red pepper flakes to your spice preference or omit for no heat.
-
Use gluten-free soy sauce and noodles to make this dish gluten-free.
- If noodles absorb too much liquid before cooking through, add more chicken broth as needed.
