  • For the French Toast:

    • 5 large eggs
    • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half cream
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 teaspoon orange zest
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup until smooth.
  • Pour the mixture into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange the bread slices in the dish, layering them if needed.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half cream, vanilla extract, orange zest, and salt.
  • Pour the custard mixture over the bread slices, making sure all are coated evenly.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the dish from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
