Description

This easy-to-make Peppermint Bark recipe is a festive holiday treat combining rich dark and creamy white chocolate layers with crunchy crushed peppermint candy. Perfect for gifting, snacking, or celebrating, it requires simple ingredients and no baking, delivering refreshing flavors and beautiful seasonal colors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Layers

  • 8 ounces good-quality dark chocolate
  • 8 ounces creamy white chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil or coconut oil (divided)
  • Optional: a few drops peppermint extract

Peppermint Candy Topping

  • 46 candy canes or peppermint candies, crushed into small pieces

Optional

  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy. Crush candy canes or peppermint candies into small, even pieces using a sealed plastic bag and rolling pin or heavy pan. Set aside your chocolate for melting.
  2. Melt the Dark Chocolate: Place the dark chocolate and half a teaspoon of oil in a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler. Melt gently in short bursts, stirring occasionally until smooth and glossy, being careful not to burn.
  3. Spread the Dark Chocolate Layer: Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly to about 1/4-inch thickness using a spatula. Refrigerate for about 20 minutes to allow it to set.
  4. Melt the White Chocolate: Repeat the melting process with white chocolate and remaining oil, stirring until silky smooth. If using, add peppermint extract here and mix well.
  5. Add the White Chocolate Layer: Once the dark chocolate layer is firm, pour the white chocolate over it and spread evenly with a spatula.
  6. Sprinkle Crushed Peppermint: Immediately sprinkle crushed peppermint candies over the wet white chocolate. Press gently so the pieces adhere well.
  7. Chill Until Firm: Refrigerate the bark for at least one hour or until fully set and hardened.
  8. Break Into Pieces: Remove from refrigerator and lift the bark off the parchment paper. Break into irregular, bite-sized pieces using your hands or a knife.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate for richer flavor and smoother texture.
  • Melt chocolate carefully in short bursts to avoid overheating and burning.
  • Ensure each chocolate layer is fully set before adding the next to maintain clean layers.
  • Crush peppermint candy into a mix of small bits and larger chunks for the best texture contrast.
  • Store peppermint bark in an airtight container to keep it fresh and crisp.
