  • Author: Lina
  • Total Time: 55 minutes

Description

This Southern Fried Chicken Batter recipe ensures crispy, flavorful chicken every time. Coated in a seasoned flour mixture, this classic dish is perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 4 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  • Prepare the Egg Mixture:
In a bowl, beat the eggs and milk together until well combined. Set aside.
  • Prepare the Flour Mixture:
In a large plastic bag or shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic salt, black pepper, poultry seasoning, and paprika. Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
  • Coat the Chicken:
    • Place your chicken pieces (thighs, drumsticks, breasts, or wings) into the bag with the flour mixture.
    • Seal the bag and shake well to coat the chicken thoroughly with the seasoned flour mixture. Remove the chicken from the bag, shaking off any excess flour.
    • Dip the flour-coated chicken pieces into the egg mixture, ensuring they are fully covered.
    • Return the chicken to the flour mixture for a second coating and shake to coat well again.
  • Fry the Chicken:
Heat a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat to 365°F (185°C). Ensure there’s enough oil in the skillet to submerge at least half the chicken pieces. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken pieces to the skillet. Brown the chicken on all sides, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  • Cook the Chicken:
After browning, reduce the heat to medium-low. Continue to cook the chicken for about 30 minutes, turning occasionally, until it is cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (75°C) when tested with a meat thermometer.
  • Drain and Serve:
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and place it on paper towels to drain any excess oil. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Crispier Chicken: For extra crispy chicken, repeat the dipping process (flour, egg, flour) to add more layers to the coating.
  • Seasoning: Adjust seasoning to your taste; for a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
  • Serving Suggestions: Southern Fried Chicken is typically served with classic sides like mashed potatoes, coleslaw, or cornbread.
