Description

This Sticky Honey Chicken is a deliciously sweet and savory dish that’s quick and easy to make. The crispy chicken pieces are coated in a luscious honey-based sauce, with a perfect balance of flavors from soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Garnished with sesame seeds and green onions, it’s a simple yet flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup honey
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar (rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (cornstarch slurry)
  • Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
Toss chicken pieces with cornstarch, salt, and pepper in a bowl until evenly coated.

  • Cook the Chicken:
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken pieces in a single layer for 4-5 minutes per side until golden and fully cooked. Set aside.

  • Make the Sauce:
Reduce heat to medium. In the same skillet, combine honey, soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil (if using), garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens (about 1-2 minutes).

  • Combine Chicken and Sauce:
Return chicken to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Let it heat through for 2-3 minutes.

  • Serve and Garnish:
Transfer to a serving plate and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can coat the chicken in flour before frying.
  • If you don’t have sesame oil, you can skip it, but it adds a nice depth of flavor.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey to taste.
