Description

A hearty, comforting casserole made with seasoned ground beef, creamy mushroom soup, sour cream, and plenty of melted cheddar cheese, all topped with crispy tater tots. This dish is perfect for a family dinner or a crowd-pleasing meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, paprika, or any favorite spices

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  • Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

  • Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings. Mix well.

  • Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in 1 ½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese.

  • Transfer the beef mixture into a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish.

  • Arrange the frozen tater tots on top of the casserole, covering the entire surface.

  • Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.

  • Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning to your taste.

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef if desired.

  • For a spicy twist, add some hot sauce or jalapeños to the mix.

  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
