Description

Enjoy the classic comfort of sloppy joes served on crispy Texas toast. This recipe combines savory ground beef with a flavorful sauce, all melted together with cheese for a deliciously satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sloppy Joe Mixture:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For Assembly:

  • 8 slices Texas toast
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
  • Stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the mixture thickens.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the Texas toast slices on a baking sheet.
  • Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over each slice of Texas toast. If using cheese, sprinkle shredded cheddar on top.
  • Bake in the oven for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges of the toast are crispy.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a splash of hot sauce to the sloppy joe mixture.
