Description

This rich and moist chocolate cake is topped with a velvety truffle ganache, making it a perfect treat for any chocolate lover. The smooth ganache adds an extra layer of indulgence to an already delicious cake.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Truffle Topping:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Prepare Cake Batter: In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water until the batter is well combined (the batter will be thin).
  • Bake Cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Make Truffle Topping: For the chocolate truffle topping, heat heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add dark chocolate chips and butter. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
  • Assemble Cake: Once cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a thin layer of the chocolate truffle mixture over the top. Place the second cake layer on top.
  • Top with Ganache: Pour the remaining chocolate truffle mixture over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  • Finish: Dust the top with cocoa powder for a finishing touch.

Notes
