For the Wontons:

  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg (for sealing wrappers)

For the Soup:

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Baby bok choy (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Wonton Filling:
    • In a bowl, combine the ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, and chopped green onion. Mix well.
  • Assemble the Wontons:
    • Place about a teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wonton wrapper. Brush the edges with a beaten egg to help seal, then fold the wrapper to seal tightly.
  • Cook the Wontons:
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the wontons and cook for 4-5 minutes until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
  • Prepare the Soup:
    • In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil. Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and white pepper. If using, add the baby bok choy and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Serve:
    • Divide the cooked wontons into bowls. Pour the hot broth over the wontons and garnish with sliced green onions.

Notes

  • You can customize the filling by adding other ingredients such as shrimp or vegetables.
  • For a heartier soup, consider adding noodles.
