Description

These Baked Apple Fritters are a healthier twist on the classic fried treat, featuring tender apple pieces in a lightly spiced batter, baked to golden perfection and topped with a sweet cinnamon vanilla glaze. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale

For the fritters:

  • 3 to 4 cups canola oil (for greasing or light frying, optional if baking in a greased pan)

  • 3 cups diced Fuji apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 3 large or 4 medium apples, approx 375 g)

  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled (190 g)

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar (65 g)

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ cup whole milk (120 ml)

  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled (45 g)

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the glaze:

  • 2 cups confectioners sugar (240 g)

  • 4 to 5 tablespoons milk or water (60 to 75 ml)

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.

  • Toss diced apples with lemon juice and set aside.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  • In another bowl, combine milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

  • Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.

  • Drop batter by heaping spoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing fritters about 2 inches apart.

  • Bake for 15–18 minutes or until fritters are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  • While fritters bake, prepare the glaze by whisking confectioners sugar, milk (or water), vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth. Adjust thickness by adding more liquid or sugar as needed.

  • Drizzle glaze over warm fritters before serving.

Notes

  • Fuji apples work well for their sweetness and firmness but feel free to substitute with other apple varieties.

  • You can lightly fry fritters in canola oil for a traditional crispier texture if preferred.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
