- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box)
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp instant espresso powder
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake: Bake the chocolate cake according to the package instructions. Allow it to cool completely before handling.
- Make the Mocha Mousse: In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and instant espresso powder until soft peaks form.
- Combine with Chocolate: Fold in the vanilla extract and melted semi-sweet chocolate chips until well incorporated.
- Assemble the Cake: Cut the cooled cake into two equal layers. Spread a generous layer of the mocha mousse between the cake layers and then on top of the cake.
- Garnish: Top with chocolate shavings for an elegant finish.
- Chill: Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the mousse to set.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
