  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box)
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp instant espresso powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Cake: Bake the chocolate cake according to the package instructions. Allow it to cool completely before handling.
  • Make the Mocha Mousse: In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and instant espresso powder until soft peaks form.
  • Combine with Chocolate: Fold in the vanilla extract and melted semi-sweet chocolate chips until well incorporated.
  • Assemble the Cake: Cut the cooled cake into two equal layers. Spread a generous layer of the mocha mousse between the cake layers and then on top of the cake.
  • Garnish: Top with chocolate shavings for an elegant finish.
  • Chill: Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the mousse to set.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
