Description
These crispy and savory Philly cheesesteak egg rolls are filled with tender ribeye steak, sautéed onions and peppers, and melted provolone and Cheez Whiz. Perfect for a party appetizer or a delicious snack!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ribeye steak (or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain)
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
- 1 medium onion (sliced)
- 1 bell pepper (sliced, optional)
- 1/2 cup provolone cheese (shredded)
- 1/2 cup Cheez Whiz (optional, for classic Philly cheesesteak flavor)
- 8 egg roll wrappers
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced ribeye (or flank steak) to the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions (and bell peppers, if using) and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Combine the Filling: Add the cooked beef back into the skillet with the onions and peppers. Stir in the shredded provolone cheese and Cheez Whiz (if using) until everything is melted and well combined. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Prepare the Egg Rolls: Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean, flat surface with one corner facing you (like a diamond). Place 2-3 tablespoons of the beef and cheese mixture in the center of the wrapper. Fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then fold in the sides. Roll tightly from the bottom to the top, sealing the edge with a little beaten egg.
- Fry the Egg Rolls: Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat. Carefully add the egg rolls to the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve: Serve the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ranch, ketchup, or additional Cheez Whiz for a true Philly experience! Enjoy hot and crispy!
Notes
- Air Fryer Option: To make these in the air fryer, spray the egg rolls lightly with cooking spray and cook at 375°F (190°C) for about 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Flavor Variations: Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor!
- Make Ahead: You can prepare the egg rolls in advance and store them in the fridge before frying. Just fry them when you’re ready to serve.
